The BLF officially announced the formation of the ‘Sado Operational Battalion (SOB)’ on 1 December 2025. BLF spokesman Major Gawhram Baloch explained that SOB is the group’s first special operations wing – a frontline commando unit created to carry out high-profile, complex missions. He said the unit ‘practically demonstrates the BLF’s operational capability and strict discipline. Crucially, the SOB is explicitly named after Commander Waja Sado (Saadat Marri). Marri as a martyr as per BLF sources and pioneer of Baloch armed resistance, noting that he ‘played an important role in launching the current war of independence’. Major Gawhram stressed that invoking Sado Marri’s name is meant to carry forward his ‘ideological legacy,’ and that every SOB fighter upholds his teachings of sacrifice and perseverance
The stated mission of the SOB is to target strategically significant objectives, particularly those that the adversary ‘does not anticipate,’ with the aim of destabilising Pakistan’s military and economic framework in Balochistan. Its members are characterized as highly disciplined self-sacrifice units (Jund-i-Neder), reflecting an ideological emphasis on martyrdom. Gawhram Baloch framed this as a ‘well-considered philosophical and ideological decision’ by youth prioritizing national survival. In BLF rhetoric, SOB is the culmination of Sado Marri’s vision: not merely armed fighters, but a professional force expanding the BLF’s operational reach. The BLF calls the battalion an evolutionary advancement in its structure, designed for complex urban warfare, sieges and high-value raids rather than hit-and-run guerrilla attacks.
The SOB appears to be a single sub-unit within the BLF. Its members are drawn from seasoned BLF fighters (often called ‘commando’ or sarmazaran). The BLF has not publicly listed a separate commander of SOB beyond its spokesperson. Within the broader BLF, Allah Nazar Baloch is widely identified as overall commander-in-chief and Commander Akhter Nadeem as his 2IC. The SOB’s recruits are portrayed as highly motivated volunteers committed to extreme sacrifice. BLF messaging emphasizes youthful idealism. The SOB induction is described as a spiritual commitment, echoing Sado Marri’s legacy of martyrdom. According to BLF sources, members undergo ideological indoctrination in addition to military training, carrying forward Marri’s teachings that ‘freedom is won through struggle. The battalion’s formation suggests the BLF is actively recruiting and training cadres for special operations, including women – as evidenced by the Nokundi suicide bomber.
The SOB was unveiled in the context of Southwestern Balochistan. Its first and so far only claimed operation was in Nokundi (Chagai District), near the Pakistan-Iran border. This suggests an operational focus on the western/southern belt, potentially including Basima, Panjgur and Kech areas – traditional BLF strongholds. However, no other specific SOB attacks beyond Nokundi have been reported. In general, BLF activity spans across Baluchistan, but the SOB’s creation likely aims at high-value targets (mining, foreign workers, military HQs) anywhere in the province.
Saadat Marri (was a veteran Baloch guerilla leader. Sources emphasize his role in early-2000s militancy, suggesting he was of middle age. He belonged to the Marri tribal community of Balochistan. He has one son named Gulzar Marri, who is also an active member of BLA. Sadaat Marri was killed on 14th August 2007, in kech in an IBO. Marri was among the founding generation of the post-2004 BLF insurgency. Baloch sources credit him with training and organizing fighters across the province. Saadat Marri is often cited as one of BLF’s early leaders or ‘guiding figures.’ He apparently joined the BLF around its 2003–2004 re-emergence under Allah Nazar. Overall, his role was as a senior strategist and morale booster, though he may not have held a formal rank (he was in effect a mentor and symbolic leader within BLF).
